Fort Collins, Colo., charter school wants to add a campus
A charter school in Fort Collins, Colo., is planning to open a second elementary campus.
The Liberty Common Charter School, which now has a K-6 elementary campus and a high school campus for grades 7 to 12, is looking to acquire another site where it plans to expand its elementary program, reports The Fort Collins Coloradoan.
The additional space also would enable the school to pursue plans for a multi-use performing arts center.
Liberty Common Headmaster Bob Schaffer says the school has a waiting list of more than 800 students.
Liberty Common is seeking to secure a lease on a building that now houses Axis International Academy and the Colorado Early Colleges West Fort Collins middle school campus. Both of those schools have announced plans to relocate.
The building was constructed for the Global Village Academy charter school, which opened in 2013, but that school was forced to shut down in 2019.
School officials said when the new Liberty Common campus is fully functional, it will accommodate about 525 students. Plans call for it to be a K-6 campus, but creating a K-8 school also is an option.
