University of Minnesota Rochester looks at plans to convert hotel into student housing

The university is planning to renovate a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel to house about 403 beds, a dining hall, and a fitness center.

The University of Minnesota Rochester is considering a plan to transform a downtown hotel into additional student housing. 

The proposed renovation of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel would create living space for about 403 students, a dining hall and a fitness center, reports KIMT.com.

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents will discuss the proposal with hotel officials.

 University officials want to open the new student housing next summer.
