The $29.3 million campus will be built on the same property as the existing Maiden Elementary, reports the Hickory Daily Record.
Once the new building is complete, the old building will be demolished.
The 93,128-square-foot, preK-6 school will have about 32 classrooms and would accommodate about 627 students.
District leaders intend to ask the Catawba County Board of Commissioners for an additional $12.5 million to help pay for construction. The county previously agreed to allocate $19.5 million for the project.
