The Canal Winchester (Ohio) district is planning additions to Indian Trail Elementary School and Canal Winchester Middle School.
The additions would consist of a 2,500-square-foot expansion of the cafeteria space at Canal Winchester Middle School, and adding between 6,500 and 8,000 square feet of space at Indian Trail Elementary that would enable the district to offer all-day kindergarten, reports The Columbus Dispatch.
Students at Canal Winchester Middle are assigned lunch periods as early as 9:30 a.m. because of a lack of cafeteria space. Lunch is served over eight periods to accommodate all students.
Renovations at Indian Trail would enable the district to expand half-day kindergarten to a full-day program.
The projects are projected to cost about $5.3 million and would be financed through the district’s operating budget.
The district hopes to begin the projects in spring of 2023 and be completed by 2024.
