New Boston College dorm poised for LEED Silver
Boston College expects to open a new 245,000-square-foot residence hall in time for the 2016 academic year.
The project, located where St. Thomas More Hall once stood, will provide an additional 490 beds. It’s on track to earn LEED Silver certification, according to a press release from the construction manager, BOND. EYP Architecture & Engineering designed the project.
“We are excited to be building the next residential experience at Boston College,” Robert Murray, BOND president, said in a statement. “Our understanding and work with Lean construction will produce a quality structure that better complements a 21st century academic model.”
The Lean construction philosophy focuses on minimizing waste and optimizing project value in the construction process. BOND used these strategies, such as pull planning and small-batch execution, with a 305-bed residence hall project at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
Once the home of the college’s law school, the 60-year-old More Hall was demolished earlier this year to clear the site for this project. After the law school moved out of the building in 1975, More Hall served a variety of purposes, mostly administrative.
