Colorado State University begins work on new football stadium
Construction has begun on a football stadium on the Fort Collins campus of Colorado State University.
The $238 million project consists of a 41,000-seat, 644,132-square-foot stadium, as well as a 23,144-square-foot alumni center and a 59,831-square-foot academic center. The project is situated on a 17.5-acre site on the Colorado State campus. The existing football venue, Hughes Stadium, opened in 1968 and is 3 miles west of campus.
The university anticipates that the new stadium will be completed in time for the 2017 football season.
Other features of the stadium complex: 22 private, 16-seat suites; more than 40 loge boxes that seat four to six people; a large video board on the south end of the field; a 5,500-square-foot hall of champions; five retail spaces; a weight room; meeting rooms, office space; and a player/recruit lounge.
The project has been designed to meet environmental standards for LEED certification.
Funding for the new facility comes from bonds that will be paid off with stadium revenues and private donations.
