The Lynchburg (Va.) district will welcome students later this month to a new Heritage High School.

WSLS-TV reports that the 266,000-square-foot facility is replacing an aging school that was badly in need of repair.

Among the features in the $78 million school: a 6,800-square-foot media center; a 28,000-square-foot field house; and a 12,500-square-foot auditorium.

The classrooms are situated on two levels, and each is designed to take advantage of daylighting. Each core-content classroom will contain flexible furniture and technology to support modern curricula
