$22 million campus is scheduled to open in 2017.

School District 27J in Colorado has begun construction of a $22 million elementary school in Commerce City.

CBS4 Denver reports that the 64,000-square-foot school, which has not yet been named, is scheduled to open in 2017 in the planned Reunion community in Commerce City.

The new school will accommodate students from prekindergarten throught fifth grade and will relieve crowding at the nearby Turnberry Elementary, which is more than 100 students over capacity. Funds for the school construction come from a $248 million bond package that voters approved in 2015.

The school will be the first district-run school to serve the Reunion community. Landmark Academy at Reunion, a charter school, also serves that community.

The architect for the new school is Hord Coplan Macht.
