Sacramento City College is expanding presence in Davis, Calif.
The Sacramento City College has begun construction on the second phase of its Davis Center facility on the campus of the University of California Davis.
The Davis Enterprise reports that the three-story building will add 15,800 square feet to the center at a cost of $13.48 million. The center is situated in the West Village portion of the UC Davis campus.
The new space will contain classrooms and science labs, as well as offices for faculty members. The college expects construction to be completed by January 2018, in time for the Spring 2018 semester.
Phase One of the Davis Center was completed in fall 2011 on the UC Davis campus.
The project has been designed to incorporate sustainable elements and strategies with a goal of receiving LEED certification.
The Davis Center serves about 2,500 students, a little more than 10 percent of the overall enrollment of 22,000 students taking courses through the various branches of Sacramento City College. The college is part of the Los Rios Community College District.
The new building will give the Davis Center the capacity to serve an enrollment of around 4,000 students.
Many students who complete an associate’s degree at the Davis Center go on to pursue a bachelor's degree at UC Davis.
