New residence hall opens at Plymouth State University

Sept. 12, 2017
288-bed Merrill Place will help the university meet its goal of having more than 60% of students living on the Plymouth, N.H., campus

The 288-bed Merrill Place Conference Center & Residences is the newest residence hall at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, N.H.

The university says the seven-story, 95,000 square foot building offers students a state-of-the-art place where they not only live but also experience the clusters model of learning outside the traditional classroom. Students began moving into the facility last month.

Merrill Place also will serve as the centerpiece to Plymouth State’s growing conference and events department. With full-service conference facilities and on-site hotel-style housing, Merrill Place will help the university grow its summer conference business and boost regional tourism and economic development.

The additional housing will help Plymouth State achieve its goal of having more than 60 percent of its students to live on campus; before the new residence hall opened, about 56 percent of students lived on campus.

The co-ed residence hall has single rooms with bathrooms, double rooms with bathrooms, and two single rooms with a shared bath.

The first floor features a lobby with a study area, an administrative office area, and a large conference center. Laundry facilities also are available on the first floor.

The architect is Perkins + Will.
