Shawnee Mission (Kan.) district ready to build $27.8 million aquatic center
The Shawnee Mission (Kan.) school district is scheduled to begin construction next month on a $27.8 million aquatic center in Lenexa.
School board members approved construction contracts Monday night for the aquatic center and a parking garage. Construction is expected to begin on the aquatics facility in late October.
The district says the center will include a 50-meter competition pool with diving wells and a 25-yard pool that will be used for a variety of aquatics activities.
It also will have seating for viewing aquatics competitions, locker rooms, a concession stand and a dry-land training area.
The facility is being built in partnership with the City of Lenexa. Funding for the project comes from a $223 million bond issue approved by voters in 2015.
The architect is ACI Boland and the construction manager is JE Dunn Construction.
