KCEN-TV reports that the district has released an artist's rendering of the school, which is scheduled to open in 2022 with a 2,500-student capacity. The district says it will be built on Chaparral Road and help will help eliminate overcrowding at existing high schools.
Enrollment in the Killeen district for the coming school year is expected to be nearly 45,000 students. Three of the district's four traditional high schools have already exceeded their capacity, and 290 portable classrooms are being used.
In May, voters in Killeen approved a $426 million bond package, which will provide funds for the new high school.
The vote marked Killeen's first school construction bond election in 16 years.
