WLNE-TV reports the new high school will have more than 300,00 square feet of space and have capacity for 1,600 students.
Voters in East Providence approved a bond proposal last year to pay for the local share of construction. The school will be built on the same site as the existing school, which was built in 1952.
The state of Rhode Island will cover about 75% of the cost of the construction.
The building will have 45 classrooms, two greenhouses, 10 modern science labs, interactive learning centers and high-tech security measures.
The new facility is scheduled to open for the 2021-22 school year.
