The La Center (Wash.) School District has broken ground on construction of a $35.5 million middle school.
The Reflector reports that district officials, school board members and contractor employees, wearing face masks, gathered last week for a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of the 81,000-square-foot, two-story facility in downtown La Center.
The school is designed for 550 students and is expected to be completed for fall 2021 classes.
Though Covid-19 has halted in-building education and led to drastic changes in the 2019-20 school year, Superintendent Dave Holmes says that waiting for favorable weather was the biggest factor into why ground broke in May.
“It was just a matter of waiting for the ground to dry out,” Holmes said.
The architect is NAC Archtecture, and the contractor is Robinson Construction.
