Bridgeport, Conn., high school will be built on campus of University of Bridgeport
The city of Bridgeport, Conn., has announced that it will build a high school at the University of Bridgeport.
The Connecticut Post reports that the city will pay $6 million for about 6.29 acres of land on the campus and will build a high school to replace the 91-year-old Bassick High School.
The city also will enter into a 99-year lease — at $1 a year — for a soccer field adjacent to the school site.
The city has been working for years to replace Bassick High, the last of the city’s comprehensive high schools to be rebuilt.
In 2018, the plan was to rebuild the school on its existing site, but a suitable location could not be found to move the school’s 808 students during construction.
To construct the new Bassick building, the city will level Bodine, North and South Halls — all one-time residence halls — and replace them with the school and parking.
The new high school will cost about $115 million. Its curriculum is expected to focus on advanced manufacturing.
