The Lincoln (Neb.) school district has broken ground on a new high school.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that the project is one of two new high schools the Lincoln district is constructing with funds from a $290 million bond issue that voters approved earlier this year.

The school, in the northwestern part of Lincoln, is expected to open in fall 2022. The other high school is planned for southeast Lincoln is expected to open in 2023.

The names of the new high schools have yet to be decided; a committee hopes to decide by August 2021.

Both of the planned high schools will be constructed using the same design. The design features natural light and open spaces, and in addition to many traditional classrooms, they will have a central cafeteria, gym and innovation center spaces.

The school campus in northwest Lincoln will also have district athletic facilities for football, track and baseball.

The architect is Clark Enersen Partners, and the builder is Hausmann Construction.
