Principia School has started construction on a $31.4 million athletic complex at its 360-acre campus in west St. Louis County, Mo.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the private K-12 school held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Simon Athletic Complex, which will feature a new field house and several outdoor fields.

The project will include the Bill Simon Field House, which is slated to be completed in spring 2022. It will include a fitness and performance center, a four-lane indoor track, locker rooms, several courts and a competition gym. It will be erected on the site of the school’s former field house. Demolition on that facility wrapped up last month.

Principia’s Simon Athletic Complex also will include several outdoor sports fields, including a lighted baseball facility and multipurpose fields.

The athletic complex is named for former Principia Coach Bill Simon.

The contractor is Helmkamp Construction, and the architect is Hastings+Chivetta.

In addition to using it for its own athletic contests, Principia plans to open up the facility for other groups and schools to use.

Principia School has about 370 students.
