Seventh and eighth grade students are expected to move in next month to a new middle school in Texarkana, Ark.
KTBS-TV reports that the new Arkansas Middle School in the Texarkana (Ark.) district will serve about 1,000 students. It is the first new school built in the district in nearly 40 years.
The $26 million campus was built on a 30-acre site near Interstate 30.
The building is divided into four wings, one of them is a fine arts wing, the other three are dedicated to the grades sixth, seventh and eighth.
Students in grades seven and eight are scheduled to begin classes at the new campus on March 1. Sixth graders are set to make the move at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.
In addition to a media center, there's a full gymnasium next to the cafeteria, which includes an amphitheater stage.
There's also state-of-the-art computer and science labs, as well as, upgraded security features.
Funds for the new school came from a $20 million bond restructure that voters approved in 2017.
The district also received $6 million from the state department and a magnet school grant.
The last school built in the Texarkana (Ark.) district was Trace Elementary, constructed in 1982
