A charter school network has begun construction of a 37,000-square-foot high school in the Phoenix, Ariz., suburbs.

The Leona Group, which operates charter schools in several states, has broken ground on Ridgeview College Preparatory High School in the San Tan Valley, Ariz., area.

Ridgeview College Prep will focus on helping students in the San Tan Valley, Queen Creek, Florence, and Mesa communities get an early start on college, trade school or other career-focused paths.

The campus will have a regulation-sized gymnasium, science labs, technology-rich classrooms, and indoor/outdoor learning spaces.

The recreation facilities will enable students interested in sports, clubs and other extracurricular activities to build strong friendships with peers.

The school will open for grades nine through in 2021-22; 12th-grade enrollment will begin in 2022.

The builder is Adolfson & Peterson Construction, and the architect is Carhuff & Cueva Architects.
