The Arlington (Texas) school district has held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a construction project that will replace an existing elementary.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the new $25 million campus will replace Webb Elementary School, which is more than 60 years old. The new facility is scheduled to open in fall 2022.

The district says it will cost less to replace the buildings than it would have to renovate them to meet today’s needs.

Webb’s new building is being erected on the same campus as the existing elementary. Once the new facility is complete, the old building will be demolished.

Funding for the Webb school construction comes from a $966 million bond package approved by Arlington voters in 2019. In addition to Webb, Thornton and Berry elementary schools and Carter Junior High also will get new buildings.
