The improvements, not to exceed $2 million, will add four classrooms, remodel school offices and carry out other service upgrades, reports the Northwoods Star Journal.
The work is expected to be complete in time for the beginning of the 2021-22 school year. With about 200 more students than the other elementary schools, Crescent is the largest in the district.
The school board also approved construction of a larger gymnasium. The $2.485 million project will provide additional storage, restrooms and mezzanine. Because of a shortage of construction materials, work on the gym won't begin until late summer or early fall.
Principal Gayle Daniel says the existing gym will be converted to common space and used as a cafeteria and a place for indoor recess.
