The Olentangy district is adding its sixth middle school in Delaware County, Ohio.
The site for the new campus sits south of Berlin High School in Berlin Township. The 156,700-square-foot campus will be the first middle school built in Olentangy since Berkshire Middle School opened in 2011. It will be similar in design to the district’s other middle schools.
The district's middle school enrollment has risen above the 5,000; when Berkshire opened a decade ago, that number was 3,900, The Delaware Gazette reports. Middle school enrollment is expected to rise to 6,500 by 2030-31.
“The addition of a sixth middle school to the district will provide the necessary relief needed on the growing enrollment in our current middle schools, particularly in the northeast region,” said Superintendent Mark Raif.
The middle school project is expected to cost about $46 million.
