The Richardson (Texas) school board approved spending $6 million for the first phase of an expansion and renovation at J.J. Pearce High School.

The Community Impact Newspaper reports that the initial phase of improvements at the school will include Installation of turf on an existing baseball field, construction of a new softball field and the addition of more parking spaces.

In all, the Richardson district has earmarked $103.76 million for Pearce High improvements.

The subsequent phases call for:

  • Upgrading existing systems and infrastructure, and constructing additions to increase student capacity.
  • Renovating classrooms, reconfiguring existing spaces and additional upgrades.

New spaces will include a two-story addition at the northwest corner of the existing high school building and a one-story addition on the southeast wing. The two-story addition will add more than 25,000 square feet to the building, and the one-story addition will add a little less than 9,000 square feet.

Funding for the improvements come from the Richardson district's $750 million bond package, which voters approved in May.

The project is expected to be completed in August 2024.
