Construction is underway on a $37.6 million middle school in the Lafourche Parish (La.) district.

The building is being constructed on a lot between East and West Thibodaux middle schools.

The new school will have capacity for 850 students and replace the East and West Thibodaux middle schools. Once the new building is complete, the other two schools will be torn down, reports Houma Today.

The two-story, 141,160-square-foot building will have two floors and will house two gyms, a library, specific wings for sixth through eighth grades, a play area and competition fields.

Construction is set for completion in May 2023.

Weimer Gros Flores Architecture and Design is the architect.
