Mansfield (Conn.) district breaks ground on state's first net-zero-energy elementary school

Geothermal and solar technologies will be employed to create an energy-efficient campus.
July 6, 2021

The Mansfield (Conn.) district is building the state's first net-zero energy elementary school.

The  school will replace the town’s existing three elementary schools - Dorothy C. Goodwin Elementary School, Southeast Elementary School, and Annie E. Vinton Elementary School - reports the Hartford Courant.

The school will produce all of the energy that it uses mainly via geothermal and solar technologies.

The building is designed so that daylight can reach far into the interior; all windows will be equipped with sunshades.

The planned opening date is September 2022.

TSKP Studios is the architect.
