Canyon (Texas) district is building three new schools
Three new campuses are under construction in the Canyon (Texas) school district.
The Amarillo Globe-News reports Heritage Hills Elementary, Spring Canyon Elementary and West Plains High School are a part of the $196.7 million bond issue that was passed in November 2018.
Spring Canyon and Heritage are scheduled to open in August, and West Plains is scheduled to open in August 2022.
Heritage Hills is being designed to hold about 750 students, and Spring Canyon will accommodate about 500 students. The high school will have space for 1,200 students, the district's website says.
The elementary campuses were constructed in a "pod style" for students in first through fourth grades. The kindergarten classes will use a more traditional approach.
The pods consist of a series of classrooms situated around common areas. The spaces promote collaboration among classes and teachers and are large enough to fit an entire grade level.
