In the next four years, the Waukee (Iowa) school district will construct four new facilities.

The projects-- an elementary school, an athletic facility and two new middle schools-- are part of the district's 10-year facility and financial plan. The construction is scheduled to be completed by 2025, reports the Des Moines Register.

Sugar Creek Elementary School, which will be the district's 10th elementary, will cost $19 million and will be able to serve 750 kindergarten through fifth-grade students when it opens in 2022.

A $50 million middle school, the district's fifth, will be 130,000 square feet and is expected to serve 1,000 eighth-and ninth-grade students. However, the district says the school's grade configuration could be changed to grades six and seven, depending on the outcome of the district's boundary process.

A sixth middle school is also in the district's plans. This middle school will roughly be the same size as the fifth middle school and will also have capacity for about 1,000 students.

Waukee also is building a $33 million, 61,000-square-foot natatorium and athletic facility with two pools. The three-story facility is set to open in 2023 and will be able to accommodate about 1,000 spectators.
