New York City has begun construction of a $66.8 million, 572-seat school building in the Bronx.
The school will be built adjacent to the South Bronx Educational Complex and will provide needed classroom capacity as a result of redevelopment projects in the area, according to a city news release.
The four-story school will house grades pre-K through fifth grade. The building will also house a special education component.
Construction is expected to be completed by the 2024-25 school year.
The School Construction Authority’s 2020-24 Capital Program includes nearly $1.6 billion in funding for 21 buildings that will add 11,983 seats in the Bronx.
Forte Construction Corp. is the construction manager for the project.
