The Humble (Texas) district is ready to open an elementary school to replace what had been the district's oldest building.

The new Lakeland Elementary School is a $40 million campus that will serve 950 students, reports The Tribune. It is situated near Ross Sterling Middle School and Humble High School.

The old Lakeland Elementary was built in 1960.

The school has been designed to resemble a children's museum to set the tone for play-based learning.

When students enter, they will be greeted with a multifunctional media space that resembles a tree house. Other features include learning pods that incorporate airplanes, arctic, dinosaur, marine, space, world traveler and zoo themes.

Lakeland Elementary is home to the district’s first fine arts wheel. The program, which began in 2019-20, lets students experience orchestra, band, theater, choir, mariachi and dance in elementary school.

The new elementary is part of a 2018 $575 million bond referendum.
