A grand opening ceremony marked the opening of a new high school in the Sherman (Texas) district.

Sherman High School, housing the district's only comprehensive high school, encompasses about 500,00 square feet and can accommodate about 2,600 students in grades nine through 12.  The $157 million facility opened to students earlier this year.

Labeled a “super school,” the facility features an array of career and technology shops and labs, a grand entrance and walkway, natural lighting inside the building, a pride walk, outdoor learning areas, an expansive courtyard, and career and technical education spaces, a news release from VLK Architects says.

Funding for construction of the school comes from a November 2017 bond.

The building that previously housed Sherman High is being converted to a middle school.

VLK Architects designed the building.
