University of South Florida begins construction of indoor football facility

University officials also say they are discussing plans to build a stadium on the Tampa campus.

The University of South Florida in Tampa has broken ground on an indoor training facility.

The university projects the facility will cost about $40 million and is expected to be ready next year in preparation for the 2022 season, reports Tampa Bay 10 News.

Highlights for the USF Football Center:

Entry lobby and multipurpose recruiting space

  • Indoor practice facility with 100-yard turf field
  • 12,000-square-foot strength and conditioning center
  • 10,000-square-foot football locker room
  • Team auditorium with tiered seating
  • Sports medicine and rehabilitation facility
  • Nutrition center
  • The university is also discussing plans to construct an on-campus football stadium. No specifics have been released on construction plans for the stadium.
