The Granite (Utah) district is constructing a high school in Magna to replace an aging facility that is too small.

Cyprus High School had been shut down in 1981 because of soil problems; although the school was rebuilt, problems persisted, especially in the wake of last year’s magnitude 5.7 earthquake near Magna, reports The Salt Lake Tribune

In addition, some parts of the school are over 100 years old, and it is no longer able to meet the needs of students.

The existing campus covers less than 40 acres and more than 2,650 students. The new campus has been designed to better handle the growth anticipated in Magna in the next 15 to 20 years.

The school is set to open in 2025.
