Construction of the New Hampstead K-8 School had been delayed several months because of weather delays and worker absenteeism.
After a number of delays, the Savannah-Chatham County (Ga.) district has opened a K-8 school.
The Savannah Morning News reports that New Hampstead K-8 School in Savannah opened on Tuesday. The school was built to relieve overcrowding at Godley Station K-8 School.
Weather delays and Covid-related absenteeism among subcontractors pushed back the construction completion by several months.
The attendance zone for the new school means it will have 748 students from Godley Station, 113 students from Bloomingdale Elementary, and 42 students from West Chatham Middle.
The full capacity for the building is1,500. The school was built with a sales tax-funded budget of $42.5 million.
