Yale University plans to build a net-zero Physical Science and Engineering Building

The $350 million facility will focus on initiatives in quantum and material science.

Yale University is planning a $350 million Physical Science and Engineering Building on its New Haven, Conn., campus that will focus on initiatives in quantum and material science.

The facility will be built north of Bass Center and east of the Class of 1954 Chemistry Research Building, near Wright Laboratory, reports The Yale Daily News

The project includes a 253,000-square-foot research laboratory building, a 48,000-square-foot addition to Wright Laboratory and a 220-space parking garage.

The university is aiming for the facility to be a net-zero building.

The facility will house applied physics, chemical and environmental engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science and physics departments.

In order for the university to construct the facility, Wright Lab West and Wright Lab Connector will be demolished. Programs within those buildings will move to new laboratories that are set to be built during the first phase of construction.

Other campus buildings that will be demolished are the chemical safety building and a parking garage.

A temporary chemical safety building will be constructed prior to the demolition of the existing facility, which will occur in phase two of construction.

Construction is expected to begin in 2023 and is set to be completed in 2027.

Turner Construction Company is the builder.
