Muskegon (Mich.) district is constructing a $30 million middle school at a former hospital site
The Muskegon (Mich.) district is constructing a $30 million middle school on the site of the former Mercy Health Hackley Hospital.
Charles Hackley Middle School will have a three-story academic wing with more than 30 classrooms and six science rooms, a music wing, a gymnasium, and gender-neutral bathrooms throughout the building, reports MLive.
Mercy Health donated 15 acres of the former Hackley Hospital site for the school. The hospital was demolished last year.
The district is replacing the district's existing middle school, a 1950s building that would have required expensive repairs.
Funds for construction of the school will come from a May 2020 voter-approved $104.7 million bond issue.
Construction is expected to be complete in January 2024.
