New Construction
$140 million donation will enable expansion of Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif.
Fueled by a $140 million donation from alumnus and trustee George R. Roberts, Claremont McKenna College is expanding its Claremont, Calif., campus.
The donation will enable the college to develop the eastern half of its campus, the college says in a news release.
The projected expansion would double the footprint of the campus to over 150 acres. The plan calls for new academic facilities, student housing, recreation and playing fields, enhanced pedestrian walkways and gathering spaces to encourage engagement and interaction.
Among the envisioned improvements:
- Development of eight athletic and practice fields, an aquatics center, golf practice range, and recreational area, and a pedestrian bridge across Claremont Boulevard.
- Three pedestrian malls created to encourage interaction, engagement, and displays of public art.
- Construction of academic and administrative facilities, additional student apartments, and a commencement green.
