Backed by a $10 million donation from rapper Dr. Dre, the Compton (Calif.) Unified District has broken ground on high school performing arts center.

The Andre Dr. Dre’ Young Performing Arts Center will have a 1,200-seat theater, classrooms for fine arts, and sports facilities, reports KABC-TV

Dr. Dre - born Andre Young - grew up in Compton and rose to fame as a member of NWA, whose debut album was titled "Straight Outta Compton."

In addition to Dr. Dre's donation, funds from a 2015 bond issue will help pay for the facility.

DLR Group is the architect.
