Hotel opens on University of Chicago campus
A privately run hotel has opened on the campus of the University of Chicago in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood.
The Study at University of Chicago is a 12-story, 167-room facility with 4,700 square feet of space dedicated to hosting social gatherings and business meetings, and a Winter Garden space for weddings, Study Hotels says in a news release.
The rooms overlook the campus and Lake Michigan. The hotel sits along the campus’ Midway Plaisance—east of the David Rubenstein Forum, across from the Rockefeller Chapel, and a short walk from the forthcoming Obama Presidential Center.
An English-style tavern just off the hotel's lobby features traditional pub fare. Other amenities: a fireplace, lounge area and a main dining room.
The lobby has a library curated by The Strand Bookstore and a student art gallery.
This hotel is the third development from the Study Hotels Brand, a subsidiary of New York–based hospitality firm Hospitality 3 that develops properties adjoining university campuses, The Chicago Maroon reports.
The company has previously opened properties at Yale in 2008 and UPenn-Drexel in 2017, Work is underway on a hotel at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
The Study Hotel at University of Chicago was designed by Holabird & Root.
