Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn (Iowa) district breaks ground on elementary school
The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn (Iowa) district has broken ground on an $18 million elementary school in Marcus.
The district also is making safety updates to the high school and building a new daycare center, reports the Le Mars Daily Sentinel.
The existing elementary building is nearly 70 years old and is plagued with poor heating, no air conditioning and moisture problems. The high school, which experiences similar problems, is nearly 60 years old.
The $2.1 million daycare center will be built near the elementary school and leased to a non-profit group, which will operate the center.
Students will not be relocated during construction of the elementary. Once the new building is complete, students will be moved into the new space and the existing building will be demolished.
CMBA Architects is the architect and Wiltgen Bros. Construction is the contractor.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2023.
