Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College, a tribal community college in Hayward, Wis., is undergoing a $175 million construction project.

After the project is complete, which college officials said could take up to 20 years, the college plans to become a university, reports The Green Bay Press-Gazette

The campus sits on 20 acres, and the project will add another 240.

The first stage of the project will add residence halls as well as single- and multi-family housing. The housing project should be completed within three years.

The institution is predominantly a commuter college attended by older adults, but school officials hope that by adding housing and courses, younger students will be persuaded to enroll.

The college now enrolls about 95 tribal citizens.
