The building will enable the university to meet increased enrollment demand and foster the growth of the state's STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) workforce, the university says in a news release.
The engineering building will be erected on the North Campus in Amherst.
The building will feature an engineering commons, which will include collaborative spaces for student clubs as well as maker space, student support services, and programs that support the formation of startup companies and other entrepreneurial activities.
About $68 million of the funding for the project will come from the New York State’s 2023 budget.
