The 50,000-square-foot building will be used primarily for clinical training of third- and fourth-year nursing students.

The University of South Carolina and Lexington Medical Center are planning to build a 50,000-square-foot facility in West Columbia for the College of Nursing.

The construction project is a public-private partnership between the College of Nursing and the medical center, the university says in a news release.

The medical center will build the nursing facility and provide clinical instructors; the university will fund equipment for a simulation lab as well as equipment and furnishings for classroom spaces.

The $20 million facility will enable the university to graduate about 400 nurses per year.

The building will be used primarily for clinical training of the university’s third- and fourth-year nursing bachelor’s students as well as master’s program students. The university’s health sciences interprofessional education program also will use classroom space.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2024.
