The project will add classrooms, a playground and a therapeutic area for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the San Diego County Office of Education says in a news release.
The playground will have a sensory area for students play and will double as a calming area as well.
The program for younger students started at a separate campus in 2015. It was moved to the main North County Academy campus in 2019.
The school serves about 50 students who require more intensive support.
The project is expected to be completed in spring 2023.
