Pueblo (Colo.) district completes construction of a new Centennial High School
The Pueblo (Colo.) district has held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of construction of a new Centennial High School.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports that the building will be the fourth version of Centennial in its nearly 150-year history. It replaces a weathered red brick building next door that was built in 1973.
The total cost for the construction of the new Centennial, upcoming exterior site work and demolition of the old Centennial building is about $74 million.
Centennial has many of the same features as Pueblo's new East High School, including a 1,200-person capacity gymnasium, an auditorium akin to a large movie theater and vast space for students to socialize.
The new Centennial also has a room full of hospital beds and a few adult-sized dummies for its Health Academy, and a wood shop for its construction technology program.
Decades of Centennial's history will be preserved in trophy cases and displays throughout the new school.
Funding for the Centennial and East high schools comes from a $218 million bond issue that Pueblo voters approved in 2018.
