New Construction
Federal Way (Wash.) district breaks ground on middle school
The Federal Way (Wash.) district has broken ground on a new Illahee Middle School.
The district says the new facility will replace the existing Illahee Middle School, which was built in 1971. Completely rebuilding the school will address overcrowding and deteriorating facilities. During construction, students and staff will move to a temporary offsite location. The district expects construction to be completed after winter break in 2025.
Campus features:
- The site will have biophilic design, exterior learning and athletic courtyards, and prominent views of nature.
- The new school facility will have enhanced security features, including a fully enclosed perimeter, additional security cameras, and a secure welcome entry vestibule that connects to the main office.
- The new campus design incorporates much of the campus’ mature tree landscaping and preserves as many trees as possible.
- Separate bus loop and parent drop-off areas to reduce congestion and improve safety.
