Replacement elementary under construction in Morristown, Tenn.

July 12, 2023
The new Lincoln Heights Elementary School will replace a facility built with an open-classroom concept.

The Hamblen County (Tenn.) district has broken ground on a new Lincoln Heights Elementary School in Morristown.

WBIR-TV reports that the new school is scheduled to open by Christmas 2024.

Hamblen County Schools Superintendent Arnold Bunch say the new building will improve learning conditions by featuring a closed classroom format. The existing school has an open classroom concept, so at any given time one student could hear four to five different teachers talking.

School Board Chairperson Carolyn Clawson says the new school will help ease crowding at the school and throughout the district, The Citizen Tribune reports.
