Turner County (Georgia) district is building a new middle/high school
The Turner County (Georgia) district has broken ground in Ashburn on a new site for Turner County Middle and High School.
WALB-TV reports that the groundbreaking is the start of a three-year process that will result in updated facilities, new technology and a better learning environment for the students. It’s expected to be completed by May 18, 2026.
Craig Matthews superintendent of Turner County Schools, says the district hopes the school can become a College and Career Academy grant recipient. Currently, they are selected as a finalist and hopes to move forward in the process.
“That grant will give us another $3 million in state funding that will save local taxpayers money,” said Matthews.
The new two-story, 6th-grade through 12th-grade facility will house all new instructional units, administrative offices, a media center and a gymnasium.
“The time is now for us to build this project....the old building is failing us and showing its age a little bit,” said Matthews.
