University of Guam breaks ground on engineering building

The $7.9 million facility will be the university's first engineering building.
Dec. 18, 2023

The university says it had to overcome numerous obstacles to get the $7.9 million, 16,500-square-foot construction project off the ground. Delays in construction have been attributed to complex financing arrangements as costs throughout the island escalated in recent years.

The growth of the School of Engineering, which now has more than 170 students enrolled, is occurring as the island is seeing a construction boom, officials said.

Construction is scheduled for completion by March 2025.

The architect is RIM Architects, and the contractor is Future World Corp.

University President Anita Borja Enriquez thanked Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero for providing a $7 million funding package to support the School of Engineering construction project as well as the Student Success Center Building project.

The groundbreaking is the third for the university in recent weeks. The other projects: the Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health’s Nursing Annex and the Water and Environmental Research Institute of the Pacific facility.
