Marion County (Florida) district breaks ground on 2 elementary schools

The campuses will have the same design and are set to open in 2025.

The Marion County (Florida) district has broken ground on two new elementary schools to accommodate enrollment growth in the southwest part of the county.

Elementary School “W” will be built in the Marion Oaks community. Elementary School “X” will be constructed in the Winding Oaks community in Ocala. 

Each school will use the same design and have the following features:

  • Total budget of $47 million per school
  • About 115,000 square feet
  • Serves up to 860 students with 43 classrooms
  • Administrative area on first floor, media center on second floor
  • Cafeteria area at back of school with art and music suites in between
  • One-building two-story concrete block construction with enhanced security features including minimal entry points

Both schools are scheduled to open in August 2025.
