The East Buchanan (Missouri) district has begun construction of a $16 million middle school in Gower next to the existing elementary and high school.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports the new facility will replace the existing middle school in Easton.

The district aims to complete the construction in time for the 2025-26 school year.

“We knew we couldn’t keep kicking this can down the road,” Superintendent John Newell said.

District officials say the majority of construction will be completed during this summer and in the subsequent summer to avoid disrupting activities at the nearby elementary and high schools.

The architect is Incite Design Studio, and the contractor is Al J. Mueller Construction Company.
